You Can Learn A Lot By Walking

There's always something that you can either learn by observation or to think about when you go on morning and afternoon walks. Not only is walking beneficial health wise, but the mind can clear itself of all the garbage that the world has thrown at it. Many times, I talk to the Lord in prayer, asking Him to help me clear my mind of worldly things which are temporary, and to concentrate on spiritual things which are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18; Colossians 3:1-4).

One unusual thing I observed on my walk this morning, was a young lady in her 20's walking on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. She used propriety in her dress, because she wore a simple skirt that came below her knees, which was very refreshing to see in this day and time where young women usually are found more unclad than clad.

The above observation reminded me of the apostle Paul's admonition regarding modest dress in 1 Timothy 2:9-10: "in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works."

The second thing I observed on my walk, was another young lady and her dog walking together at a local park, just a short distance from one of our elementary schools. She had unleashed her dog and was playing fetch, allowing her dog to freely run and retrieve the ball over and over again, giving the dog the daily exercise that it needed. You could tell she dearly loved her dog by her hugging and speaking kindly to it.

The above observation reminded me of Proverbs 12:10 (NIV) where it states: "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel."

Beloved, You can learn a lot by walking.
