Biblical Ways Of Properly Honoring God

Have we ever thought how we honor God in our everyday living? In the following short study, let us list some biblical ways in which we may properly honor God:

1) We honor God when we worship Him in songs of praise as He desires (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 13:15).

2) We honor God by "ordering our conduct aright" according to the instructions found in God's word (Psalm 50:23). Jesus further expressed this concept when He said: "If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor" (John 12:26).

3) We honor God by being good stewards of the blessings He has provided. Let us note what the Proverb writer tells us in Proverbs 3:9:"Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase." This passage teaches that we are to honor God with our material means that He has provided (cf. 2 Corinthians 9:5-8; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2).

4) We are to honor God with the talents He has equipped us with: "Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness" (Romans 12:6-8).

Properly honoring God with our lives, is a day-to-day, moment-by-moment process. In every decision-making situation, we need to ask ourselves, "What would honor the Lord at this moment?" Then we need to act accordingly, as the inspired Scriptures direct us.

Beloved, if we faithfully and properly honor God, we can rest assured that He will honor us with the glory of His salvation in Christ (Psalm 62:7; cf. Jeremiah 3:23; Psalm 3:8), and bless us with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3).
