Where Is Our "Safe Room" Located?

In various parts of our country that are susceptible to hurricanes and tornados, home owners have built “safe rooms” — special places where they can go for protection (see pictures set 1 and set 2).

In Proverbs 18:10, Solomon reminds God’s people that God is their “safe room.” The name or character of God is described as a “strong tower.” As a captured city might take refuge in a fortified tower (Judges 9:51), so the righteous can run to the Lord and find complete safety.

In Proverbs 18:11-12, we see a contrasting description of the rich man depending upon his wealth as his “safe room.” In this text, Solomon is telling his readers that money might give a “sense” of security, but it would be a false security that could lead to laziness, pride, and destruction.

Only children of God who are humble and place their complete trust in the unchanging and holy character of God, will find true safety (1 Peter 5:5-7; cf. 1 Timothy 6:17-19).

Dear reader, where is our “safe room” located?
