God's Mercy Endures Forever!

We don’t have to live very long in this world before it becomes painfully clear that nothing lasts forever. The new car we were so proud of when we purchased it is now spending more time in the shop than on the road. The clothes we picked up on sale are now in a hand-me-down box. The roof on our house is leaking when it rains, the appliances break down, the carpet needs to be replaced. And relationships we think will long endure often fall apart.

Nothing in this earthly existence lasts forever with the exception of God’s mercy. In Psalm 136:1-26, we are reminded of this inspiring truth twenty-six times. As the writer gives us something for which to praise the Lord, he then reminds us that, “His mercy endures forever.

Let’s think about the following thoughts for a moment: When we sin and need forgiveness, "His mercy endures forever." When our lives seem a jumbled mess that we can’t control, "His mercy endures forever."

When we can’t find anyone to turn to for help, "His mercy endures forever." When each day is a struggle because of illness, despair, or conflict, "His mercy endures forever." Whenever life seems overwhelming, we can still praise the Lord, as the Psalmist did  for God’s mercy is always new and fresh.

No problem can outlast God’s overflowing mercy  it’s forever! (Jude 1:21).
