Sin's Chain Of Progression

In Joshua 7, we read of the tragic story of Achan. Against God’s command, Achan took some of the spoils of Jericho and hid them in his tent (Joshua 7:21). As a result, his family was stoned to death (Joshua 7:24-26).

Note the progression of Achan’s eventual sin in Joshua 7:20-21 KJV and compare it with James 1:14-15 KJV).
  • I saw” [“enticed“].
  • I coveted” [“conceived”].
  • I took” [“brings forth sin”].
Thankfully, under the New Testament law to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:21), God does not immediately punish us in the manner he allowed Achan and his family to be punished. If he did, very few of us would remain alive today.

Beloved, we must never underestimate sin’s deadliness and wages (cf. Romans 7:13; Romans 6:23).

Let us immediately put away all selfish and sinful thoughts that displease God (2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Colossians 3:5-6), confessing any sin in our life, and asking God to forgive us of all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
