Six Things The Most Productive People Do Every Day

Image
Want to be more productive and not waste time? Tim Ferriss, author of the international bestseller, The 4-Hour Workweek, provides us with six things that the most productive people do every day.

Sick And Tired

Image
For those of us who are presently sick, or have experienced sickness in the past, the following poem offers some excellent advice and words of wisdom:

The Greatest Word

Image
In reading the Scriptures, we understand that sin can no more exist in the presence of God than darkness can exist in the presence of light (Habakkuk 1:12-13). To stand before Him in self-righteousness would be to invite our destruction (Ezekiel 33:13).

Sometimes....

Image
Sometimes….

We must be hurt in order to grow;
We must fail in order to know,
We must lose in order to gain.
Some lessons are learned best
Only through pain.

Having An Exciting Expectancy

Image
Years ago, I had several pet goldfish in an aquarium that I fed three times a day. Each time I approached the aquarium with their food, the goldfish would race toward me, their little mouths frantically opening and closing in eager anticipation of their expected treat.

Seeing Through The Eye Of Faith

Image
In listening to daily news reports of mischief, murder, and mayhem, isn’t it refreshing to hear some good news for a change? In Micah’s day, many people in Israel were eager to hear some good news. The ruthlessness and dishonesty of fellow-citizens, rulers, and even judges were extremely frightening (Micah 7:2-3).

Finding The Time To Read The Bible

Image
The following are some suggestions as to how we can find the time to read the Bible:

Just Our Being There

Image
When we read the book of Job, we usually disparage Job’s three friends for their incorrect response as to why Job was suffering (cf. Job 4-5,8,15,18,20,22,25). Yet when they came to Job, they sat in silence beside him for 7 days before speaking (Job 2:11-13).

No Time For God?

Image
"No time for God?
What fools we are to clutter up
Our lives with common things
And leave without heart’s gate
The Lord of life and life itself — our God!

Let's Get Back To The Bible, To God, And To Moral Sanity!

Image
Max Hastings, a writer for the U.K. publication, “Mail Online” has written an eye-opening article regarding riots in England.

Do We Remember Grandma?

Image
“Grandma used to get up on Sunday morning before daylight (at least mine did), cook a big breakfast for her very large family, milk three or four cows, churn butter, clean the house, kill and dress a couple of whole chickens, bathe and dress the kids, then go with the family in a horse-drawn wagon five miles or more to the ‘meeting house,’ getting there early for Bible study and worship.

"It Is Written" --- "It Is I" --- "It Is Finished"

Image
Sometimes we are overwhelmed by crushing waves of disappointment, endless debt, debilitating illness, or problems with people, which can cause hopelessness, depression, or despair. It happened to Jesus’ disciples, and if we live very long in this world, it can happen to us as well.

Every Penny Counts!

Image
The penny has been called the most despised unit of currency in our country because of its seemingly insignificant value. In fact, many people will not even bother to pick up a penny if they see it lying on the ground. However, some charities are finding out that pennies can add up to significant amounts over a period of time.

Planning And Preparing For The Big Event

Image
Have you ever planned a big event? Births, weddings, and graduations are big events in our lives. They require planning and are time-consuming. We plan to the very last detail. We expect the very best.

Remembering God's Vital Truths

Image
Those of us who are older sometimes have lapses of memory, but Jill Price has no such lapse. In fact, she has an extraordinary memory that has stunned scientists. Ms. Price can remember what happened to her on any given day over the past 30 years. If a person gives her any date during that 30 year period, she has the amazing ability to tell them what day of the week it was, the weather, what she had for breakfast, the television programs she watched, and the people she spoke with.

On Being Long-Winded

Image
The story is told of a man who once attended a meeting where the guest lecturer was extremely long-winded. When the listener could stand it no longer, he got up and slipped out a side door. In the corridor he met a friend who asked, “Has he finished yet?” “Yes,” the man replied, “he’s been finished for a long time — he just doesn’t know when to quit!”

And They Called It Junk!

Image
While rummaging around in our garage a few years ago, I found all the awards that my son had achieved during his years as a boy scout, including his Eagle Scout badge. There they were in a box — about to be thrown out. I immediately thought of the blood, sweat, and tears that had gone into gaining those awards, and now I was putting them in the trash. They no longer had any value to my son.

Thank God We Can Choose The Color!

Image
The story is told of a college student who one summer decided that he would earn money for his tuition by selling Bibles door-to-door. He began right away by knocking on the college president’s door. His wife opened the door, the student explained to her what he was selling, and then she politely explained that her family didn’t need any more books.

Is A "Little" Sinning All Right?

Image
An MTV commentator was once reported as saying, “A little lust, pride, sloth, and gluttony—in moderation—are fun, and that’s what keeps your heart beating” (source). Is there really such a thing as gluttony in moderation? How in the world can we practice excess in moderation? Although moderation is a virtue (Philippians 4:5 KJV), it can never apply to an action that is immoral.

The Power Of Godly Acapella Christian Music

Image
In the lyrics of the hymns that we often sing, God combines the power of music along with His truth to draw His people closer to Himself (Ephesians 5:18-21; Colossians 3:16-17). In Deuteronomy 31-32, God instructs Moses to teach a new generation of Israelites a song that proclaimed God’s faithfulness, but it would also become a witness against them when they settled in the Promised Land and forsook Him (Deuteronomy 31:21).

Do We Yearn For The "Good Old Days"?

Image
Some people go through life always wishing to go back in time. They yearn for the “good old days” when life seemed better. Families were spiritually stronger, Christians were more godly — society as a whole was happier — or so they believe!

No Pretense, Please!

Image
As a child, my neighborhood friends and I enjoyed pretending like we were cowboys and Indians. Our vivid imaginations allowed us to take on the roles of other make-believe characters as well. We understand that pretending is normal for a young child, but some carry the habit of pretending into adulthood — including those who are members of the Lord’s church.

Only One Type Of Christian

Image
It’s been said that there are two types of people in the world: Those who come into a room and say, “Here I am!” and those who come in and say, “Ah, there you are!

We Have Reservations At God's Table

Image
At one time or another, most of us have attended a dinner or reception where place cards are on tables with our names on them. Years ago, I remember my wife and I attending such a dinner, where I, along with other employees from a major gas pipeline company, was being honored with a plaque for my years of faithful service.

A Comforting Daily Rhythm Of Life

Image
In today’s fast-paced society, a lack of sleep is a major issue for many people. A lack of sleep upsets the body’s biological rhythms, causing mood disorders and depression. However, like every other problem we face in life, God’s word provides a solution for folks who can’t sleep.

About Jesus And His Possessions

Image
In the lifetime of Jesus, it’s interesting to note that we do not hear Him ever speak of “my house”; “my land”; “my farm”; “my books;” “my business;” or “my money.”

What Makes Me Laugh?

Image
Have we ever thought about the fact that we humans are the only creatures of God who enjoy humor? The ability to laugh is distinctive only of human beings. Laughter can also tell something about ourselves as individuals. If a person tells us what amuses them, we can make a pretty accurate guess about the sort of person they are.

The Tolerance Quotient

Image
The success of Satan cannot be effectively measured by the number of Christians who have rejected righteousness for sin — although many Christians have fallen into this trap. Satan’s real success story is found in a Christian’s ‘tolerance of sin.’

Six Words Worth Heeding

Image
In looking at Scripture, I’ve often wondered how King Solomon might have summed up his life in six words. As a young man, he could have written: “God has given me great wisdom” (1 Kings 4:29-34). But in his later years, he might have said: “Should have practiced what I preached” (1 Kings 11:1-8).

What God Gives A Boy And Girl

Image
1)A Body to keep clean and healthy as a temple of life for mind and soul for the earthly journey.

Old People Pride

Image
A few years ago, my brother sent me the following email. I'm sharing it with my older readers, as I did not want to be the only “old” person receiving it. Actually, being called “old” is not a bad thing as we will see:

Twelve Things To Do Daily

Image
1) Daily thank the Lord for providing the many spiritual benefits we enjoy (Psalm 68:19).

The Power Is Of The Lord

Image
Many religious folks object to baptism for the remission of sins by saying that there is no power in the water. While it is true there’s no power in the water per se, we’re reminded that Jesus once healed a blind man by anointing his eyes and saying, “Go wash in the pool of Siloam” (John 9:6-7).

The Closer We Get

Image
King David once asked this question: “Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?” (Psalm 15:1). There are two words ancient Jews had for expressing the question “who?” One is similar to our usage. But David used another word here that asks, “What kind of person dwells close to God?

The Importance Of Teaching Integrity

Image
The story is told that in ancient China, the people desired security from the barbaric hordes to the north; so they built the Great Wall of China (see video). It was so high they knew no one could climb over it and so thick that nothing could break it down.

The Only Option

Image
If we were to ask several people to draw a crooked line on a piece of paper, no two lines would be identical. The lesson is: There are many ways to be crooked, but only one way to be straight (cf. Matthew 7:13-14).

The Importance Of Healthy Eyes

Image
The amount of light received and distributed to the body depends on the power and accuracy of the eye that receives it. A diseased eye will prevent the access of light and the darkness becomes profound to those who are accustomed to light.

"When I Met The Master Face To Face"

Image
I had walked life’s path with an easy tread
Had followed where comfort and pleasure led;
And then one day in a quiet place
I met the Master, face to face.

"Silver Boxes"

Image
The following poem entitled, "Silver Boxes," is a reminder that the words we speak, should be chosen and uttered carefully — not foolishly (Matthew 12:36; cf. Psalm 39:1; Proverbs 13:3; Proverbs 21:23):

Let's "Live Lovely" Today!

Image
From his blog, “The Morning Drive,” brother Scott McCown, preacher for the church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, offers us three thoughts on “living lovely.”

Let's Keep Our Bible Oiled!

Image
The story is told of a Bible salesman who was one day demonstrating a Bible to the lady of the house. After purchasing the Bible, the lady asked the following question:

Only A Single Spark

Image
The story is told of a young man who was one day driving an old worn-out car on a desolate road in a downpour. All of a sudden, the engine died. As he coasted to the side of the road, a car happened to be coming down the road. The driver stopped, got out of his car, and asked the young man what was wrong.

Where Are You Looking?

Image
The following thoughts from an unknown author, are thoughts that we as Christians need to seriously think about regarding any depression we might experience because of the trials and tribulations of this life:

A Minute

Image
A minute is the time it takes to smile, or to give a warm “hello” to those with whom we come in contact with each day.

School Work Begins

Image
Dear reader and beloved in Christ, for the next three weeks beginning Monday, August 11, I will be working as a substitute in our local school district's mail room, helping to sort and distribute mail to schools and departments. Because of this responsibility, I will not be writing or posting the amount of articles that I have posted in the past, but I will still post articles as time will allow.

A Sure-Fire Recipe For Effective Christian Living

Image
Like most people who cook, I have a favorite food recipe handed down from my mother – salmon croquettes. The recipe is sure-fire — if you follow the directions exactly. However, if you omit some ingredients and substitute others, the end result won’t be too tasty.

We Will "Come Forth"

Image
When my beloved mother passed from this life in December, 2008, my father, brothers and I attended the graveside services. My youngest brother assigned me the task of giving the eulogy. After her burial, we later returned to leave flowers and stood with heads bowed in memory and respect of her godly life. Our loved one was dead, and we knew we would never see her again this side of eternity (2 Samuel 12:15-23; cf. Job 7:6-10).

"When I Throw Up My Hands In Despair"

Image
"When the plumbing is broken; the kids have the flu;
When money is tight and there’s too much to do;
My insurance was canceled; my floor needs repair…
I finally just throw up my hands in despair!

A Forgotten Ring

Image
The story is told of a man, who before eating in his favorite restaurant, went to the bathroom to wash his hands. As he was about to dry his hands, he spotted what looked like an expensive gold wedding band on top of the towel dispenser. Some man had forgotten to put the ring back on his finger after washing his hands.

"End Construction"

Image
For several years now, many roadways in El Paso have been under constant construction. At the end of each construction project, there is usually a sign that reads, “End Construction.

"No Time For Kicking"

Image
The following poem by an unknown author, illustrates the necessity of doing our part in the Lord’s kingdom (Gal. 6:5). When everyone does their part without complaint, the Lord’s church will grow (Ephesians 4:11-16):

Two Questions For God

Image
The following two questions that the prophet Jeremiah asked God, have been asked countless times throughout the ages: “Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?” (Jeremiah 12:1).

"Be On God's Side"

Image
The story is told that once at a White House dinner, a churchman offered a benediction and closed with this pious affirmation: “The Lord is on our side.”

On Running To The Doctor

Image
From all of the drug advertisements on television, one would think that almost everyone is running to their doctor in order to acquire the “latest and the greatest” drug that supposedly will cure any ill that one might have.

More Humor For The Soul

Image
Here are some more humorous stories that I have received via email, that reveals to us the innocence, the imagination, and straightforwardness of a little child (Matthew 18:1-3; Matthew 19:13-14).

What Would Our Name Be?

Image
Native American Indians used to give their children names they earned. Thus, some girl might be named “Laughing Water, Sunshine, or Timid One.” A boy might be named “Running Feet, Wise Owl, or Black Hawk.”

Observations Of The "Me" Generation

Image
When I went to our local grocery store this afternoon to pick up a few groceries, I noticed a young teenage girl coming out of the store wearing a t-shirt monogrammed with the word “ME” in large letters on the top of it.
