"Horror Of Great Darkness"

An individual once asked, “In Genesis 15:12 KJV, isn’t this the Lord bringing Abram a vision? I don’t understand why a visitation from God would be called a horror of great darkness.

Genesis 15:12 KJV states:

And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

The “horror of great darkness” that Abram saw in the vision from the Lord (Genesis 15:1) was a prophetic revelation of the captivity of Israel in Egypt (Genesis 15:13-14; Exodus 6:5-6; Exodus 12:36).

The phrase, “thy seed” (Genesis 15:13) being a reference to the posterity of Abram (Genesis 46:8-26; Exodus 1:1-11; Acts 7:6).
