Let's Get Involved ---- Now!

Several years ago, there was an article in the Houston Post relating an incident that took place in Miami, Florida. A man was being beaten by several younger men who were robbing him. While about 50 people stood motionless, one man tried to help; but without success.

Why didn’t the 50 people come to the aid of this man being beaten and robbed? The answer can be found in Luke 10:25-37 — the case of the Good Samaritan, who helped the man beaten and robbed. Yet, the Priest and the Levite “passed by on the other side” (Luke 10:31-32).

Many of the problems of our day are the result of many “standing” and “watching” instead of “stooping” and “helping.” We don’t like for other things to interfere with our daily routine of easy living. You have been urged to take a stand against filth on our televisions, and in magazines — how many have responded? We still believe there are many faithful Christians who want the church and America to clean up “pollution” in our society.

Brethren, let’s act!

A man in Babylon by the name of Daniel had been issued a decree by the King [Darius] that no one was to pray to any god for 30 days, save the King (Daniel 6:1-9). But Daniel got “involved” on the Lord’s side. When Daniel “knew that the document was signed, he entered his house …. He had windows open toward Jerusalem; and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously” (Daniel 6:10).

There are many moral issues facing us today. We can stand “motionless,” backing away from our responsibilities, or “fall on our knees” and pray. Remember, we must live with our conscience; and it takes men with courage to “keep the windows open …. And get down on bended knee” in spite of any opposition. —H.C. McCaghren
