On Successfully Dwelling With Our Wives

On successfully dwelling with our wives, Peter issues us as husbands this challenge: “Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered” (1 Peter 3:7).

Peter saw it as a priority for the husband to become a student of his wife — able to know and understand her. Without a commitment to understanding our wives, we as husbands are not capable of doing what logically comes next — honoring our wives.

As husbands, if we are to love our wives as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25), it will begin with our effort to grow in our understanding of them.
