Our Reservation In Heaven

Have we ever taken a vacation where we knew we would have a great time, but on the way we had so many traveling difficulties that we wondered if the journey was worth it? There were car problems, traffic delays, getting lost, sick kids, and irritable fellow travelers. We knew the destination would be great, but the trip was anything but smooth. Yet we kept pressing on, because we knew it would be worth the trouble.

Dear reader, that is a picture of the Christian life! Those of us who have rendered obedience to our Lord (Romans 6:17), are on a journey filled with difficulties, setbacks, tragedies, and obstacles (2 Timothy 3:12; Psalm 34:19). Trouble always seems to be present or just around the corner. Yet we know that an indescribable destination awaits us (1 Peter 1:3-4). And sometimes the assurance of what’s reserved for us in heaven is all that keeps us going.

Peter understood, because he said that as we make our way through life, we will suffer grief as a result of our troubles (1 Peter 1:6). Yet we can actually rejoice through our difficulties, because God has reserved something special for us at the end of the journey (1 Peter 1:3-9).

Are we troubled today? Let us look ahead to our reservation in heaven — for Heaven will surely be worth it all!
