On Condescending To People Of Lower Estate

Whenever our local school board hired a new superintendent a little over a year ago, I had hoped that the employees of the school district, as well as the people of the community, would be able to freely speak to him about the problems and issues that have come up within the school district. However, the evidence has shown that this superintendent has no desire to condescend to people of lower estate.

This superintendent is rarely seen in his office because he usually works from home. Additionally, he protects himself through a bevy of secretaries which daily surround him. When he first became superintendent, he declared that his office would have an "open door policy which did not materialize. In gaining access to his office, one must have a secret pass code, or use an access card, similar in looks to a credit card. Only those employees with the above code and card can gain access to the superintendent's office (unless someone in the office allows them entrance). All others are just "out-of-luck."

Since my employment with the school district over thirteen years ago, I've only seen one superintendent up close and personal, and that individual (being only two feet away) didn't say one word to me didn't recognize me as a fellow human being at all. In my mind, this is a deplorable state of affairs, to say the least. Just because an individual has been given a high level of authority because of his so-called educational "credentials" or political "clout" (belonging to the "good-old-boy" club), does not authorize him to be a snob to the underlings who work for and under him.

Beloved, whatever our rank, position, or authority might be, we need to seriously consider having the same mindset toward others as our blessed Lord did (Philippians 2:5-8; cf. Hebrews 2:9-18; Hebrews 4:14-16),  If Jesus (who is "King of Kings and Lord of Lords" - Revelation 19:16) was willing to "humble himself" (Philippians 2:8) in order to bring us, i.e., "sons to glory" (Hebrews 2:10), cannot we humble ourselves to talk to people of lower estate? (James 4:10; 1 Peter 5:5-6; cf. Proverbs 25:27; Proverbs 27:2; 2 Corinthians 10:17-18). Did you know that we learn something from everyone we meet(yes, even from a lowly school custodian!).
