Sodom's Sins And America

In Ezekiel 16 NLT, God through the prophet Ezekiel, is threatening Jerusalem with multiple judgments (Ezekiel 17 NLT) for their (1) engaging in idol worship, resulting in the sacrifice of their children (Ezekiel 16:15-25 NLT) and (2) making alliances with nations who engaged in idol worship (Ezekiel 16:26-29 NLT).

Henry H. Halley (of Halley's Bible Handbook fame, on page 301) well summarized this chapter by stating:

"It is a graphic, vivid portrayal of Israel's idolatry under the figure of a bride, rescued from her exposure as an infant, who became the wife of her benefactor, who made her a queen and lavished upon her silks, sealskins, and every beautiful thing; who then made herself a prostitute to every man that passed by, thereby becoming even worse than Samaria and Sodom."

Through the prophet, God condemns the nation of Israel by stating that their sins were similar in nature to Sodom's sins, which were: (1) pride, (2) gluttony, and (3) laziness (Ezekiel 16:49 NLT).

Beloved, are not the above three sins the exact same sins that America (in the form of its citizenry) is committing today? Will not God bring about judgment upon America as He did with Israel of old?

Our nation might ought to get its house in order before it's too late! (Psalm 9:17).
