On Serving Two Masters

We are often frustrated because we desire two mutually exclusive things: (1) evil pleasures and (2) a pure conscience; (1) idleness and (2) success; (1) a selfish life and (2) a reputation for generosity.

From the Scriptures, we know that no one can successfully serve "two masters" (Matthew 6:24). One cannot long serve conflicting interests simultaneously.

To advocate justice while deceiving our neighbor, is to compromise with principle for the sake of personal gain. To rationalize, is an attempt to make immoral or unethical practices conform to a sensitive and troubled conscience.

We cannot ride in opposite directions at the same time nor can we straddle the fence indefinitely (1 Kings 18:21). We "cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24).

To experience a successful spiritual life here on earth, one’s life must be integrated. This means that all of our inner forces must be coordinated and subordinated to the will of God (Isaiah 1:18-20; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Ephesians 5:14-17; Colossians 3:1-3; cf. Matthew 7:21; James 1:19-25).

Beloved, let us seriously think about the above thoughts and then make any necessary adjustments.
