"The Simple Believes Everything"

Over the past 60+ years, I've read many articles such as this one from the Religion News Service, regarding Pentecostal revivals, and it's the same old broken record over and over again. Pentecostalism has been around for many years, still espousing the belief that supernatural miracles still exist today when the inspired writer Paul plainly tells us that the miraculous age shall "cease" (1 Corinthians 13:8 ESV)  and it has.

The miraculous age "ceased" when the New Testament revelation ("that which is perfect" [complete] - 1 Corinthians 13:10; James 1:25) was "confirmed" (Hebrews 2:3-4). Jude tells us that "the faith" which contains the New Testament revelation was "once for all delivered" (Jude 3). Folks, this means that there will be no more divine revelation delivered from God since we have been given "all things" that we need to attain "life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3). The New Testament revelation is now confirmed and complete, thus there is no more need for the miraculous. Today, God works in people and circumstances through His divine providence to bring about His will (note the story found in Esther 1-10).

The Proverb writer tells us that "the simple believes everything" (Proverbs 14:15 ESV), however, in this same verse he tells us, "but the prudent gives thought to his steps." The word "prudent" means to be "wise, sensible in action and thought." We are "prudent" when we "search the scriptures daily" (Acts 17:11) to see if what we are reading and being taught is based on God's absolute truth (Psalm 119:142,151; John 17:17).

Beloved, let us not fall into the lazy category of "the simple" who believes "everything", but be like the "noble Bereans" of old and "search the scriptures" on a daily basis (Acts 17:11), as an individual who presents himself to God "as one approved ..... rightly handling the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15 ESV). We dare not "change God's truth into a lie" (Romans 1:25), for there will be no liars in that heavenly city (Revelation 21:8,27)
