Truth Is No Longer A Commodity But A Rarity

After looking at some of the Presidential debates and the recent arrest of five local educators due to an apparent cheating scheme, I've come to the conclusion that truth is no longer a commodity but a rarity in our society.

There's an old Russian proverb which states: "It's better to be slapped by the truth than kissed with a lie" (source).

The reason it is far better to be "slapped by the truth", is that truth wakes us up to the reality of our spiritual condition (Romans 13:11-14; cf. James 1:17-27), motivating us to change our thinking and direction in life (Luke 15:11-24), whereas a lie causes us to do just the opposite — not wanting to face the reality of our spiritual condition, and thus suffer the consequences of our ungodly state (Acts 5:1-11 NET; cf. Galations 6:7-8).

If we believe enough lies, our conscience will literally become so "seared" to being receptive to truth (1 Timothy 4:1-2), that we will apostatize from the truth, resulting in our "changing the truth of God into a lie" (Romans 1:25), thus condemning our souls to eternal damnation (Revelation 21:8,27).

Beloved, the wise thing to do, is to not only always tell the truth and speak the truth, but uphold the truth, no matter what the consequences might be (Acts 6:8-15; Acts 7).
