Living in an Orwellian society, is a reality that every human being on planet earth will soon have to face, including followers of Christ. Having this kind of society is due to the interfering and meddlesome aspects of our present oppressive government we now live under (see examples here).In a recent D.C. Clothesline article, well-known whistleblower, Edward Snowden, sums up what smart phones really are: "By preying on the modern necessity to stay connected, governments can reduce our dignity to something like that of tagged animals, the primary difference being that we paid for the tags and they’re in our pockets." As Mr. Snowden suggests, "we are liked tagged animals."
Not only have we become "liked tagged animals" in the sense of our government's ability to keep daily tabs on each citizen, but our ever-present technology disrupts human relationships as well (see videos here and here).
Our society's addiction to electronic devices, has caused a virtual disconnect in our ability to interact with "real" people in "real" time (see video).
Beloved, how can we as Christians successfully live in an Orwellian "detached" society so enraptured by electronic addictions?
Here are three suggestions.
And a whole lot of daily connecting with the Lord in prayer wouldn't hurt either!
