Transgender Bathrooms And Transgender Troops?

Image
Well, it seems that the Pentagon has lifted its ban on transgender troops (see article). So, in addition to transgender bathroom confusion (see article), what problems will a small contingent of transgender troops cause in the military?

Do We Have An "I" Problem?

Image
In the parable of the rich man (Luke 12:16-19), we see that the rich man had a definite “I” problem. Notice in this text that the personal pronoun “I” is repeated six times, indicating an attitude of selfishness and covetousness (Luke 12:13-15 – Note the parentheses around each “I” for emphasis).

The Trial Of Jesus --- A Perversion Of Justice

Image
There’s no question that the trial of Jesus was a perversion of justice. Our Lord endured false accusations and trumped up charges by false witnesses who perverted the truth (Matthew 26:57-63; Mark 14:53-65; Luke 22:63-71; Luke 23:1-25; John 18:19-40).

Illicit Sex And Judgment Day

Image
Worldly men and women still somehow think that their illicit acts, and their uncanny ability to evade the consequences of sinful behavior, will somehow go unpunished .... but alas, it will not (Galations 6:7-8 AMP).

Sources For Reaching People With The Gospel

Image
From the Braggs church of Christ in Braggs, Oklahoma, comes the following article written by Brother Ron Boatwright. His article provides us with twenty-six sources for reaching people with the saving gospel of Christ:

Modest Fashion Is The Latest Vogue And Thank God For It!

Image
This morning I was greatly refreshed to know that modest fashion is now the latest vogue and I'm thankful to God for it! It has renewed my faith in today's womankind, especially young women.

On Christianity Upsetting The Apple Cart

Image
A querist once asked, "In what way does Christianity upset the apple cart?" Christianity upsets the apple cart when it upsets the “norm” or “status quo” of a society, as we find in Acts 16:16-24; Acts 17:1-9.

Questions About Jesus

Image
A querist once asked me, “Why did Jesus come here poor and die poor? Why did Jesus leave so many sick and poor people in the world when He left?”

Paying Attention To The Little Things

Image
Every time you go swimming in the ocean, someone inevitable warns: “Watch out for sharks!” Of course, I always did, but I’ve rarely seen one. I’ve never heard the “bom – bom – bom” music that plays in the background when sharks come near. And it’s a good thing, because once you hear the music, it’s probably too late.

Seven Indispensable Things

Image
The following are seven indispensable things that we as children of God must have in order to gain entry into heaven:

Does The Devil Make Us Do It?

Image
When Eve succumbed to Satan’s ploy (Genesis 3:1-6), he played a role in her choices, but she had some faulty thinking about temptation and sin. The devil tempts us, but he doesn’t make us sin (see video)

"Be Not Deceived"

Image
The story is told of two men who were friends — both purchased parrots for pets. It turned out that one of the parrots was accustomed to singing spiritual songs, while the other used many curse words. The owners thought if they would place the parrot which sang spiritual songs with the one that cursed, the bad habit would be corrected.

"Live Large For The Lord!"

Image
Some fellow employees in the office complex where I previously worked, kept a dish of candy on their front office desk for the benefit of hungry folks who passed by. One day when I took the daily mail to their office, someone had set out tiny packets of M&M’s.

Let's Slow Down The Pace!

Image
As I observe the speed limit of 60 miles per hour on our I-10 freeway here in El Paso, I also observe other folks who are seemingly obsessed with speed. They swiftly pass my vehicle at speeds that have to be exceeding 75-80 miles per hour.

Elvis Presley And God

Image
On Saturday, January 8, 2011, millions of people around the world will remember and celebrate the birthday and life of Elvis Aaron Presley, an American music icon, who would have been 76 years old had he lived (see death of Elvis site and this article).

Favorite Non-Biblical Quote

Image
A few years ago, someone once asked me, "What is your favorite non-biblical quote?” My favorite non-biblical quote is from William Wordsworth’s, “The World Is Too Much With Us” – especially the first four lines:

Not By Our Power

Image
As Christians, we need to write ourselves the following note and stick it on our bathroom mirror, refrigerator door, or any other prominent place so we can view it every day of our lives: “Not by my power, but God’s power in me.“ We need this note because we have a tendency to sometimes misplace the emphasis in our work for the Lord. We become anxious about souls who do not immediately respond to the gospel. We fret about Christians who are negligent and indifferent — it seems that nothing we teach makes any difference in their lives.

Managing Anger -- Seven Biblical Keys

Image
Beloved, if we will incorporate the following seven biblical keys in managing our anger, we will lead happier, and more productive lives in the Lord’s service (1 Corinthians 15:58).

A Proven Remedy For Depression

Image
According to health care professionals, one of the most important things a mentally depressed individual can do for themselves, is to get out into the sunlight. Additionally, sunlight has other physical benefits as well (see article).

The Gospel And Its Simplicity

Image
In recent years, it has been advocated by some in the religious world, that the word of God cannot be understood by men. However, it would be very inconsiderate of a loving God to give instructions that could not be understood by its recipients, then to judge them by those instructions (John 12:48).

God And Loopholes

Image
While reading this American Thinker article this morning about how Planned Parenthood is spending millions of taxpayer dollars in order to elect Democrats to political office, my eyes focused on this keyword: "loophole."

Ahithophel -- "Brother Of Folly"

Image
Ahithophel (his name means “brother of folly”) was a statesman and counselor of kings, who enjoyed such great fame and popularity that his counsel “was as if a man inquired at the oracle of God” (2 Samuel 16:23).

Ten Bible Study Attitudes

Image
One of the most prevalent causes of misunderstanding the Bible is that the student fails to approach the Bible with the “right attitude.” In this way, God’s method of teaching him the truth is thwarted from the very beginning. This is the very problem Jesus faced as He began His ministry among men. After His famous parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-9), the disciples asked why He had used this method (Matthew 13:10).

You Can't Delete Reality!

Image
After reading this article by American Thinker writer, Silvio Canto, Jr., this morning, I'm wondering when people are going to ever realize that you can't delete reality!

Let's Preach The Word!

Image
The Apostle Paul exhorted Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2 to, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” Why should we preach the word?

"Garbage In, Garbage Out"

Image
The story is told of a teenage girl who one day walked into the kitchen and asked her mother, “Can I go to an adult movie with my friends tonight?” She pleaded by saying, “Their parents let them go, and if they can go, why can’t I go?”

Love Is Stronger Than Walls

Image
Don’t be fooled by me. Don’t be fooled by the face I wear. For I wear a thousand masks, masks that I am afraid to take off and none of them are me.

Is God The Potter Of Your Life?

Image
In Isaiah 64:8, Isaiah presents God as the Potter who naturally cares about that which He has created. He does not want to discard his creation. “But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.

To Fully Obey The Lord

Image
To be cleansed of his leprosy, the “important-in-his-own-eyes” Naaman was required to wash seven times in the river Jordan according to the directions of the prophet Elisha (2 Kings 5:10). After a display of stubbornness, he obeyed and was made clean (2 Kings 5:11-14).

True Giving From The Heart

Image
The story is told of a country school whose principal thought it would be good to take up donations for destitute children at Christmas time. As days passed, the principal observed there was not much interest among the students.

Let Us Faithfully Serve God!

Image
The story is told of a incarcerated man who once escaped from a state penitentiary. Twenty-four hours after his escape, his mother turned him in to the prison authorities.

'Father Knows Best,' Even In 2016

Image
Elliott Katz, a father who coaches other fathers, has written this above titled article, in which he stresses the responsibility of a father's God-given role as the leader of the family unit.

Can You Please Listen For My Bell?

Image
Just up the road from our home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each looks like every other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing. Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

On Satan Being Bound

Image
In Revelation 20:1-2, the inspired writer John speaks of Satan being bound. However, 1 Peter 5:8 speaks of Satan walking about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

"One Thing You Lack"

Image
All three of the synoptic gospels record the parable of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-22, Mark 10:17-22; Luke 18:18-23). Matthew’s account tells us the man was young, and Luke’s account notes that he was a ruler from a wealthy and socially prominent family. All three writers record that the young man was rich.

Christians Are Entrusted With The Gospel

Image
In addition to the spiritual blessings we have "in Christ" (Ephesians 1:3), Christians have been given a great responsibility of taking the saving gospel to a world lost in sin (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; cf. 2 Timothy 2:1-2; 2 Timothy 4:1-2).

We Will Be Saved "If" We Endure To The End

Image
How do we feel about someone who starts a job but never gets around to completing it? What do we think when a member of the church promises us something, but doesn’t fulfill his or her promise? How do we expect to win the prize, if we quit and fail to cross the finish line?

A Hindrance To Spiritual Growth

Image
A querist asks, “What do you consider a hindrance to spiritual growth?”

God Is Offensive Because He Offends!

Image
Sad to say, we now live in a society that doesn't want to "offend" anyone about anything, including sin (1 John 3:4-24 NLT) and those engaged in sinful practices. This is why God is offensive to many folks in our world, because He offends!

Let Us Lovingly Nurture Babes In Christ!

Image
There are past mistakes that members of the Lord’s church have made, which have contributed to an anemic, dwarfed discipleship. One of the saddest mistakes of all, is baptizing a believer in Christ, and then leaving him or her to struggle with temptations and perplexing questions alone. That is nothing short of spiritual cruelty and inhuman treatment.

Is It Possible To Understand The Bible?

Image
Many people in our world have concluded that the Bible is an incomprehensible book of “mystery.” It is looked upon as a book of unresolved conflicts and offers only numerous viewpoints. However, the Bible puts great emphasis upon understanding.

The Key Virtues Of The Lord's Kingdom

Image
In comparing Isaiah 2:1-5, Isaiah 11:6-9, Micah 4:1-4, we see the coming kingdom of the Lord dramatically portrayed, as a kingdom of peace. In Romans 14:17, Paul adds two other key virtues of the kingdom, righteousness and joy.

We Are Strangers And Pilgrims On The Earth

Image
In 1 Peter 2:11, the word “pilgrims” in the Greek is “parepidemos” (Strong’s 3927), which is a combination of three words: para — (alongside of), epi – (upon), demos — (people of a foreign country or city).

Reflections On My Dad

Image
As Father's Day is fast approaching this coming Sunday, June 19th, I thought it appropriate to post this above titled article that I wrote in honor of my father's passing on April 11, 2010. In my father's latter years, I would call him every Saturday and talk with him about our life together, along with my mother and two brothers.

We Must "Examine Everything Carefully"

Image
Because of the fact that Christ will judge us based upon our good or bad deeds (2 Corinthians 5:10), makes it a “must” for us to correctly distinguish between good and evil. However, contrary to this biblical teaching, the pervading mindset in our society today is to “call evil good and good evil” (cf. Isaiah 5:20). According to the inspired prophet, it is a serious matter to call something “bad” when it is actually “good” and vice-versa.

Let Us Be Concerned For Precious Souls!

Image
When the apostle Paul arrived in Ephesus (Acts 19:1-7 ), he encountered certain disciples who had been instructed by Apollos (Acts 18:24-25). Paul asked these disciples whether they had received the Holy Spirit. The disciples were puzzled because they had never been told about any Holy Spirit.

There's Great Power In Being Together

Image
Many years ago, I participated in a gospel quartet. If we’ve ever heard good gospel music, we understand something of the precise harmony that’s required in that effort All four voices have to contribute just the right pitch, volume, timbre, and word sound in exactly the right balance in order to produce the quality of harmony that is required.

Content To Wear The "No Brand" Name

Image
A marketing professor at a well-known university once asked his students to make a side-by-side taste comparison of two soft drinks — Coca-Cola, and Sam’s Choice Cola. Each student was asked to taste both colas and indicate which tasted better. The majority of participants stated that the Coke tasted better to them than the house brand generic, Sam’s Choice.

Defining Worship

Image
The task of defining worship is made easier when we understand what worship is. Worship is the expression of loving reverence and honor bestowed upon a being “worthy” of such reverence and honor. With reference to God, worship has to do with God’s “worth.

Some Principal Purposes For Studying The Old Testament

The following are some principal purposes for studying the Old Testament today:

Is There Really Such A Place As A "Safe Place"?

Image
While walking down to our local Dollar General Store this morning, I saw a sign on a neighborhood fire station building which read: "Safe Place".
