"Immodesty Is A Contributor To Lust"

As I was reading this article by brother Al Diestelkamp this morning, my eyes focused on the above statement from his good article. We know through the inspired writer John, that the "lust of the flesh" and the "lust of the eyes" are two of the three worldly avenues from which Satan tempts mankind (1 John 2:15-16; cf. Matthew 4:1-11).

In the Bible, modesty has been emphasized by God, since Adam and Eve first discovered their nakedness in Genesis 3:7,9-11; cf. Exodus 20:26; John 21:7 ASV). As a result, God made long tunics for both Adam and Eve, so they could cover their nakedness (Genesis 3:21 AMP).

There's an old saying that says, "Out of sight, out of mind" (see source). The solution then for both men and women regarding immodesty and immodest dress, is to put on enough clothing to cover up all bodily flesh that might cause any lustful thoughts from gazing eyes (2 Samuel 11:2; cf. Genesis 34:2; Matthew 5:28). Also see Job 31:1; Proverbs 6:20-29.

The apostle Paul tells us that our body is the "temple of the Holy Spirit" and we are not our own because we are "bought at a price." Therefore, we are to "glorify God" both in our body and in our spirit "which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

What's the bottom line for solving immodesty that contributes to lust? "Put on some [non-revealing] clothes!"
