The late Macdonald Carey was one of my favorite actors. He was widely known for his portrayal of Dr. Tom Horton through NBC's long-running soap opera, "Days of Our Lives." Before each program began, you could hear his voice saying, "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives" (see video).Each second a clock ticks, it's similar to a grain of sand trickling from the upper bulb to the lower bulb of the hourglass. Each second we live on earth, another grain of sand passes through the hourglass. When the last grain of sand passes through the hourglass, our lives on this planet will be concluded.
Every day that I awaken (usually between 6:30 - 7:00 a.m.), I notice the time on the clock. Before I realize it, half a day has quickly expired, and before long, another whole day has expired. And I wonder, where did the day go (see video), and how did it go so fast? (see article).
Believe me when I say that the older we become, the faster the sand through the hourglass travels. One day, that last grain of sand will pass through the hourglass, and we will pass from this earthly existence into eternity (Hebrews 9:27).
The question is, will we be "ready" for eternity when that last grain of sand passes through the hourglass? (Matthew 24:44; Matthew 25:10; Luke 12:16-20). Beloved, if we are not ready, let us "today" prepare for that time, when time shall be no more (2 Corinthians 6:1-3).
