After reading this American Thinker article by Rick Moran, my observation regarding government overreach is, that government needs to stay out of:1) The home — God instituted the home, giving inspired instructions for its proper function (see here, here, here, here and here) — no government intervention is necessary. The education of children is primarily the responsibility of fathers (Genesis 18:16-19; Deuteronomy 6:1-7; Ephesians 6:4), not the government.
2) The bedroom — God has already set boundaries for that environment (Hebrews 13:4; cf. 1 Corinthians 7 ESV). Also see article here.
3) The pocketbook — Undue taxes are a burden to any society (see article). While taxes are necessary to run any government smoothly and efficiently (Matthew 22:15-22; Romans 13:5-8), there is absolutely no excuse for overspending taxpayers money on unnecessary and wasteful things, such as the above article by Rick Moran illustrates.
The primary purpose of government is to (1) "improve the lives of its citizens" (see article), and (2) "to protect people’s inalienable rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness" (see article).
Other than the above two purposes, government needs to stay out of the home, bedroom, and pocketbook of its citizens, allowing them to conduct their own affairs as they see fit, as long as it does not infringe upon the rights and freedoms of others (Matthew 7:11-12; Philippians 2:1-4).
