A Breed Apart

In the house next to mine, lives a family, consisting of a father and two young daughters in their 20's (their mother is a victim of divorce). Their father is the CEO of a rental health care company that provides various home medical equipment and supplies to clients with medical needs.

Over a period of time, this family's back yard has grown up in weeds. So much so, that it literally looks like a jungle (weeds two feet tall). This writer is surprised that city representatives have not come by to threaten them with a fine if their weeds are not cut down. Approximately three months ago, the family did hire an individual to mow down the grass and weeds, but I've not seen the individual since.

The point to the above story, is that my generation (1940's - 1950's) was a breed apart from the present generation of young millennials (see article), in that we had a work ethic that was par excellence. There would have been no overgrown weeds in my family's backyard, because my father would have promptly had my two younger brothers and I hoeing those weeds down, gathering them up, putting them in bags, and taking them to the local landfill.

Not only were we a breed apart from the present generation in having an excellent work ethic, but were a breed apart, spiritually speaking, receiving a spiritual education par excellence. My parents and grandparents were promoters of both the Lord's church and the daily reading and study of the Bible (Ephesians 3:1-5; Acts 17:11; 2 Timothy 2:15); something else that is sadly missing from this present generation.

Beloved, our whole society needs to learn and understand, that whatever task we do, we need to do it with a par excellence mindset  (Ecclesiastes 9:10; cf. Deuteronomy 6:5; Jeremiah 48:10) — a breed apart over any lackadaisical mindset that might exist.
