What Is The "Shape Of Our Heart"?

In listening to English singer, song writer Sting, and his thought-provoking song, "Shape Of My Heart"...... my mind focused on a key word in the lyrics to the song --- that word being "mask" (here are several interpretations of the lyrics).

The man portrayed in the lyrics tells us all we need to know about his character:

"I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one"

The question is, why does this man wear a mask at all? What is he hiding behind the mask? Is it a secret past that he doesn't want anyone to know about, or is he a deceitful man in dealing with his fellowman? What is the "shape of his heart"?

Let us remember that a double-minded man is "unstable in all his ways" (James 1:5-8). However, there is a solution for the double-minded man -- that man who wears a mask in order to not only deceive others, but to deceive himself as well (2 Timothy 3:13):

"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" (James 4:7-10).

We need to be true, not only to ourselves, but true to the God of heaven and earth, in telling and upholding God's truth, without wearing any kind of deceitful mask at all (Romans 1:24-25). As God's people, are we willing to adhere to the Proverb writer's powerful statement in Proverbs 23:23 KJV, regarding the priceless value of truth, and our appreciation and love of it?

Beloved, what is the "shape of our heart" regarding God's truth? (Psalm 119:1-7).
