Being A Betrayer Does Not End Well

When this writer read about Bowie Bergdahl and his act of betrayal now in the annals of history, I immediately thought of the following two people in history who committed similar acts of betrayal: Benedict Arnold and Judas Iscariot - see here and here (John 17:12; John 6:70-71).

Of the betrayer Judas, our Lord stated, "....but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had never been born" (Mark 14:21; cf. Matthew 26:24).

When we divorce our spouse for any reason other than marital infidelity (Matthew 5:32; 19:9), are we not betraying the vows we took before God and man that we would be faithful to our spouse until death? (Romans 7:1-2).

Just as Bowie Bergdahl betrayed the oath of enlistment that he took before entering into the army.

Beloved, the bottom line is this: Being a betrayer, whether it be to a country or to an individual, does not end well (Hebrews 13:4).
