Four Things We Need In Life (Plus Other Words Of Wisdom)

In this short YouTube video, legendary football coach, Lou Holtz emphasizes the following four things we absolutely need in this short life in order to be successful (I have added related scriptures and article links):

1) We need something worthwhile to do (see here).

2) We need someone to love (even though many times, love hurts).

3) We need Someone to believe in (John 11:26).

4) We need something (or Someone) to place our hope in (see here).

Some other words of wisdom from Lou Holtz:

There's never a right time to do the wrong thing, and there's never a wrong time to do the right thing. Just do what's right. Additionally, be honest (see here and here); be on time. We are going to have problems (see here and here) -- that's a part of life (see here). Don't tell people about our problems -- ninety percent don't care -- and the other ten percent are glad we have them! We need to have fun with what we are doing (see herehere, and here).

Do everything to the best of our ability (see here). Not everyone can be first (see here), but everyone can be the best they are capable of being (see here). In our nation with its many freedoms, if we want to fail, we have the right to fail, but we do not have the right to cause other people to fail (see here). No matter what lawful endeavor we choose to engage in, we have the responsibility to do our best (put forth our maximum effort) in everything that we do (Ecclesiastes 9:10; Jeremiah 48:10). Life is not complicated (see here and here).

Last, but not least, show people that we care (see here and here) and are willing to help others (have a servant spirit - see here). Also, look and ponder on the following three words located on the pedestal of Lou Holtz' statue at Notre Dame: (1) Trust (see here and here); (2) Commitment; (3) Love.
