Increasing Speed And Convenience At What Cost?

As I looked at this Business Insider article regarding Walmart shuttering its Scan & Go program, I noticed the following paragraph regarding the Scan & Go program:

"Such programs may struggle because they offload labor from cashiers to customers as they try to increase speed and convenience. Requiring customers to scan each individual item makes the shopping experience more labor intensive for a customer than it would be without the program."

Note the above phrase, "increase speed and convenience." This increase will not occur because this Scan & Go program requires customers to scan each individual item, making their shopping experience "more labor intensive for a customer." This is what it will cost the customer for increasing so-called speed and convenience (convenience for whom?).

Sadly, retail organizations are seemingly always looking for ways to cut costs (still worshiping the Almighty Dollar instead of Almighty God), so they cut employees, their wages and their benefits, instead of taking care of their customer's needs (whatever happened to customer service?).

And we wonder why retail outlets are closing their doors (see here and here).

Another reason for the closure of retail outlets, is because consumers have maxed out their credit cards, causing a major impact on consumer spending (see the last few paragraphs here).

What's the solution to out of sight spending and credit card debt? See articles here and here.

Denying self is one of the demands of discipleship. Yes, the Christian life is not easy (see here), but the rewards are literally out of this world (see here and here).
